About the Role:

The Simons Foundation's Flatiron Institute is seeking a highly skilled HPC Optimization Engineer to join its Scientific Computing Core. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for developing and deploying efficient computing infrastructure, including new computational and statistical methods, storage, and data-handling systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and optimize machine learning tools and applications
  • Port and optimize HPC libraries and applications to accelerators
  • Gather and disseminate information about unified programming models and tools for developing portable accelerator code
  • Prepare codes for deployment at leadership-class facilities with GPU-heavy architectures
  • Perform related software engineering activities, including source code control, debugging, documentation, testing, and continuous integration

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in computer science or a related technical discipline
  • At least three years of professional experience with software development
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python, with familiarity with Julia, MATLAB, R, etc.
  • Parallel programming paradigms, especially MPI and OpenMP
  • GPU programming (CUDA or similar)
  • Optimization tools (monitors, profilers, nvidia-smi, nvtop, perf, htop, etc.)
  • Scientific programming libraries (BLAS, LAPACK, FFT)
  • Portable/unified programming models and techniques such as OpenCL, SYCL, OpenMP/GPU offloading
  • Linux-based HPC clusters, with familiarity with SLURM
  • Managing terabyte+ data sets
