Role Overview

The purpose of this role is to facilitate and complete the recruitment and assessment process of carer applicants, ensuring adherence to established standards and procedures.

This position involves responding to inquiries from prospective carers, maintaining contact during the consideration phase, and conducting initial phone interviews. The successful candidate will support and guide carers through required training, as well as deliver training modules for carer applicants and approved carers.

This position is a maximum term opportunity based at our Mackay office, lasting up to 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carry out an agreed number of carer assessments per year, aligned with local carer recruitment plans.
  2. Schedule and attend home visits and other meetings with carer applicants, their families, and referees to complete carer assessments.
  3. Recruit Foster Carers from the general community in line with approved carer recruitment strategies, using various media outlets and promotional events.
  4. Identify and address any training requirements, safety concerns, or placement issues throughout the assessment process, providing feedback and recommendations to the care team.
  5. Encourage potential carers to apply reflective thinking analysis of how the caring role will impact their life, family, and relationships during the assessment process.
  6. Contribute to regular corporate reviews of assessment tools, ensuring they focus on children's outcomes, align with the CARE model, and meet relevant government agency standards.
  7. Support and train new staff members in the Carer Recruitment and Support System.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in undertaking child-focused assessments in a child and family welfare setting, including carer assessments.
  • Significant case work experience in the child and family field from a strengths-based, culturally appropriate perspective.
  • Knowledge and experience with the CARE model of therapeutic care are desirable, or similar trauma-informed models, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
  • Experience in managing competing priorities and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes and quality standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a virtual team.
  • Ability to identify areas of concern within foster care and/or disability home-based care environments.
  • Ability to identify training needs for foster, kinship, and other carers where relevant.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by carers in providing care to children and young people in Out of Home Care placements.

Essential Criteria:

  • Recognised Social Work qualifications with eligibility for membership of the AASW, or a Bachelor of Psychology or other relevant qualification with significant case work experience.
  • Any minimum training requirements under the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Current unrestricted Driver's Licence.
