Job Title: Foster Care Recruitment Specialist
About the RoleThe purpose of this role is to facilitate and complete the recruitment and assessment process of foster carer applicants, ensuring that the assessment process is undertaken in accordance with established standards and procedures.
This includes responding to inquiries from prospective foster carers, maintaining contact during the consideration phase, conducting initial phone interviews and supporting foster carers through required training.
The incumbent will also deliver training modules for foster carer applicants and approved foster carers as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete foster carer assessments per year as per local foster carer recruitment plan requirements.
- Schedule and attend home visits and meetings with foster carer applicants, their families and referees to complete foster carer assessments.
- Recruit foster carers from the general community in line with approved strategies including advertisements and media outlets.
- Identify training requirements, safety concerns or placement issues throughout the assessment process and provide feedback and suggested solutions or recommendations to the care team.
- Support and encourage potential foster carers to apply, reflective critical thinking analysis of how the caring role will impact their life, family and other relationships throughout the assessment.
- Contribute to regular corporate review of assessment and review tools ensuring these are focused on children's outcomes, align with the CARE model and meet standards set by relevant government agencies and oversight bodies.
- On-board and train new staff members in the Foster Carer Recruitment and Support System.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience and skill in undertaking child-focused assessments in a child and family welfare setting, including foster carer assessments.
- Significant case work experience in the child and family field from a strengths-based, culturally appropriate perspective.
- Knowledge and experience with the CARE model of therapeutic care is desirable or similar trauma-informed therapeutic care models or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
- Experience in managing competing priorities and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes and quality standards.
- Ability and willingness to work as part of a virtual team.
- Ability to identify areas of concern within foster care environments.
- Ability to identify training needs for foster kinship and other carers where relevant.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by foster carers in providing care to children and young people in Out of Home Care placements.
Essential Criteria:
- Recognised Social Work qualifications with eligibility for membership of the AASW or a Bachelor of Psychology or other relevant qualification with significant case work experience.
- Any minimum training requirements under the relevant jurisdiction.
- Current unrestricted Driver's Licence.
