MetLife Australia is seeking a talented lawyer to join its Australian Legal Team, focusing on advancing the company's business strategy and mitigating legal risk.

The Australian Legal team is renowned for its expert insights, effective client engagement, and customer-centric approach. Our culture values collaboration, openness, hard work, and having fun.

The local legal team is small but dynamic, offering a high degree of autonomy. However, there will be a particular emphasis on partnering with the Claims and Underwriting teams in Sydney and Melbourne.

The legal team is fully integrated with the MetLife Global Government and Legal Affairs operation, aiming to be recognized throughout MetLife as globally astute and locally effective.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice and assistance to all business partners and the global legal function.
  • Ensure that business activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and MetLife policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Company Secretary of MetLife Insurance Ltd.
Role Definition:
  • Provide concise, commercial, and timely legal advice on claims and underwriting, commercial matters, marketing/advertising, and financial services.
  • Participate as a legal stakeholder in product launches and rolls, new distribution arrangements, and tenders.
  • Review and amend PDS, disclosure, and policy documents.
  • Support the business in evaluating the impact of new laws and regulations and implementing required changes.
  • Assist with regulatory reviews, requests, and investigations.
Requirements:
  • LLB/Dip Law or equivalent and entitlement to practice law in New South Wales.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience as a solicitor or legal officer in a law firm, insurance company, or other financial services organization.
