Health and Safety Specialist

To succeed in this role, you will be required to possess strong health and safety expertise, as well as the ability to lead and coordinate projects effectively.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build relationships with various stakeholders. They will also possess a high level of technical knowledge and proficiency in relevant software applications.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve Council's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS), ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and emerging health, safety, and wellness risks and opportunities.
- Design and implement health and wellbeing strategies that cater to diverse needs and requirements.
- Lead health, safety, and wellness risk management by overseeing audits, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
- Deliver support, guidance, and training to employees on health and safety responsibilities, promoting a culture of physical and mental wellness.
- Coordinate health, safety, and wellness incident reporting and investigations, conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring SafeWork NSW reporting compliance.
- Facilitate the Health and Safety Committee, fostering collaboration and effective communication among members.
- Monitor health, safety, and wellness performance through data analysis, trend identification, and regular reporting to senior management for informed decision-making.
- Lead communication and engagement initiatives, including workshops, executive briefings, and strategic discussions, to reinforce health, safety, and wellness accountability.
- Collaborate with the RTW Coordinator to oversee return-to-work programs and injury management, ensuring compliance with workers' compensation legislation and effective rehabilitation and return-to-work strategies.
