Job Description

We are seeking a professional to support foster and kinship carers in providing safe, happy and stable placements for children and young people who may have complex needs and trauma-based behavioural issues. The ideal candidate will have experience in child protection, human services or a related field, with a strong understanding of the Child Protection Act and relevant legislation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional and practical assistance to foster and kinship carers to ensure they can provide care that meets the Statement of Standards and Charter of Rights for a Child in Care;
  • Assess and identify the individual needs of each carer and child placed in their home;
  • Develop and implement strategies to manage challenging behaviour and prevent placement breakdown;
  • Liaise with schools to support the education of children and collaborate with other professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and young people;

Requirements:

  • A diploma level or higher qualification in a related field, such as Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Mental Health, Community Services or Social Work;
  • Industry experience in child protection, human services or a related field;
  • An understanding of child development milestones and the ability to develop trauma-based behaviour management plans;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • A Queensland Driver Licence and First Aid and CPR Certificates;
