Yulu-Burri-Ba is currently seeking a highly motivated Kinship and Foster Care Officer to join our Kinship & Foster Care team on a full-time permanent basis

It is a genuine occupational requirement, under Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, Section 25 that this role be filled by a person who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.

  • Current Blue Card Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card).
  • Current "C" Class Driver's Licence Valid in Queensland.
  • Proof of immunisation status – or willingness to obtain as a matter of priority.

You will be required to provide evidence of the requirements mentioned above during the recruitment process.About the Position:The role of the Foster & Kinship Officer is to provide a culturally appropriate service to clients of the program with the Department of Child Safety, ensuring that the placements meet the Statement of Standards, s122(1) of the Child Safety Act The goals of casework with children and young people placed in Kinship and Foster care will be towards achieving the most appropriate permanency option, either family reunification or an alternative long term care option, where timely reunification is not possible.

Position Duties

  • Within the aims and objectives of the Kinship and Foster Care Program ensure that efficient and effective administration of services, including administration systems, information technology and human resource processes, are managed, implemented, and maintained within the KFC Program.
  • Provide placements for children and young people subject to statutory intervention that meet the requirements of the Statements of Standards, a of the Child Protection Act
  • Provide Carers with the knowledge, skills, and resources to provide a quality standard for care for their physical, social, emotional, cultural, and educational needs.
  • Decrease the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people placed in residential care services.
  • Effectively and positively engage with children, families, carers, and service providers (including both government and non-government agencies).
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, children, parents, and kinship carers to support the establishment and strengthening of effective safety and support networks, including connection to extended family and community.
  • Participate effectively as a team member in a multidisciplinary team to deliver well-planned family and cultural connections.
  • Prepare and maintain quality case records and reports in accordance with departmental care management requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with key external stakeholders, in particular other service providers, suppliers, and Government departments to optimize the opportunity for resource allocation that will enhance the existing services.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate III in Youth Work, and/or Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health and/or equivalent relevant experience

Desirable, but not mandatory: Bachelor qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Diploma in Human Services, or other relevant qualification.

Selection Criteria

  • Understanding and commitment to the concept, philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organizations
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including demonstrating liaison and negotiation skills
  • Ability to develop rapport with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and provide support in a culturally sensitive way
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing and coordinating case management processes and procedures.
  • An ability to liaise and work with local communities and relevant Government and non-Government organizations;
  • Demonstrated ability to work pro-actively, use own initiative and to communicate confidently and effectively with clients;
  • Sound knowledge of child development and an understanding of developmental milestones, and demonstrated ability to provide information and advice from a child's family and community regarding protective and cultural matters that is culturally sound, accountable and accepted
