Environmental Governance Opportunity

Greenpeace Australia Pacific is seeking talented individuals to join its General Assembly, a key governance body responsible for overseeing the organisation's activities and ensuring its continued success. As a member of the General Assembly, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of environmental activism in the region.

The General Assembly is comprised of at least 50 voting members elected for a four-year term. Members do not participate in day-to-day operations but can exercise their power through voting on important decisions affecting the organisation's direction. To remain a member and be eligible to vote, all members pay an annual membership fee.

The main responsibilities of the General Assembly include:

  • Electing Board members;
  • High-level supervision of Board performance;
  • Accepting the GPAP Annual Report; and
  • Appointing the external auditor.

Some members also contribute to organisational governance by joining a Board Subcommittee or Working group. There are six committees currently, including Finance and Audit, Governance, Nominations, Philanthropy, Risk, and Generational Vision.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be committed to the values, mission, and purpose of Greenpeace Australia Pacific. You must have high standards of integrity, comply with the General Assembly Code of Conduct, and be prepared to make a commitment to actively participating in the AGM and any extraordinary general meetings.

You will bring a wide range of skills, experience, and knowledge to Greenpeace, including enthusiasm and passion for the environment, understanding of organisational governance, financial management principles, strategic planning, and ability to interpret the vision and strategy for future growth. You will also contribute positively to the organisation and have willingness to grow your governance experience.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific genuinely seeks to represent the voices of First Nations and Pacific peoples. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and Indigenous peoples from the Pacific are encouraged to apply. The organisation is an equal opportunity employer promoting an inclusive environment that welcomes unique contributions from diverse people.

Interested applicants should upload an abbreviated resume (two pages maximum) in PDF format. All eligible applications must be received by the designated deadline. Upon assessment, the Nominations Committee will recommend suitable candidates to the Board and General Assembly. A recruitment decision will be made by vote of the current General Assembly at the Annual General Meeting.
