Aboriginal Health Specialist

This is a key role within the Drug and Alcohol MERIT team based at Newcastle Community Health Centre. The successful applicant will provide support to clients participating in the MERIT program who identify as Aboriginal.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide guidance and case management to clients with drug or alcohol dependency and involvement with the criminal justice system.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals, including nurses, psychologists, social workers, and administrative staff.
- Foster effective working relationships to ensure a safe and culturally appropriate service promoting positive client engagement.
- Develop a thorough understanding of barriers facing Aboriginal clients accessing mainstream services.

Requirements:

- Demonstrate a non-judgmental attitude and ability to remain professional within a diverse working environment.
- Familiarity with local Aboriginal services for referral purposes beneficial.
