About the Role

The Child and Family Practitioner position is a critical role within our organization, Life Without Barriers, where you will provide high-level support and supervision to foster carers and children in family-based care arrangements.

As a key member of our team, you will work in partnership with government agencies, children, families, carers, and stakeholders to develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring the highest standards of care are met and prioritizing the protection and well-being of children and young people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake child-focused casework practice, including case planning and assessment, in partnership with relevant government agencies, children, families, carers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide ongoing support and supervision to Foster Carers regarding their care for children and young people.
  • Support and supervise Foster Carers through telephone communication and home visits.
  • Assist Foster Carers in the case planning process and implement strategies outlined in the case plan.
  • Provide supervision and support to direct reports.
  • Ensure necessary risk assessments, cultural support plans, safety plans, and behavioral support plans are developed and implemented.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and information, including carer renewals, foster care agreements, file notes, and other records in the CIRTS database.
Requirements
  • A recognized degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in the child protection and out-of-home care sector.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective within the out-of-home care sector.
  • Experience in identifying individual strengths and areas for improvement in the context of providing foster and/or host care, emphasizing permanency for children in care.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Successful candidates must clear probity checks, including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant).
