About the Role

The Family Support Worker will provide therapeutic assistance to children and families, improving their wellbeing and community connectedness. This role will ensure the best interests of children and families are central, and they are referred to the most appropriate internal or external service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake assessments to determine eligibility and complete psycho-social assessments for complex needs.
  • Perform client risk assessments and safety planning; maintain accurate case records.
  • Provide outreach services as needed and negotiate appropriate fees with clients.
  • Advocate for client rights and collaborate with child protection and other agencies to achieve service goals.
  • Develop and deliver client/community education workshops; prepare case and court reports as necessary.
  • Work with individuals, families, and couples to enhance self-awareness and relationship skills.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Degree in Health, Human Services, Behavioural Science, Social Work, Psychology or similar.
  • Current National Police Check.
  • Current Blue Card.
  • Current Queensland Driver Licence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the service region.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours, including on-call work.

  • Strong ability to work within a child-focused and whole family framework while positively engaging clients in a supportive role.
  • Committed to maintaining confidentiality and applying sensitivity with a non-judgmental approach.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively consult and liaise with diverse individuals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, adept at prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
  • Capable of working independently, taking initiative, and contributing as an effective team member.
  • Digital literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and various database applications.
