About the Program

The Children & Parenting program provides short term, early intervention outreach case management to families in need of support. The service works with families to identify goals and to develop a plan to work towards these goals. In addition, the service provides group work for parents/caregivers/supporting family members, children and youth to help them build their wellbeing, resilience, knowledge and skills.

About the Role

The Family Support Worker will provide therapeutic assistance to children and families to improve positive wellbeing by educating and supporting them and working towards enhancing their community connectedness. The role will ensure the best interest of children and families are always central and they are referred through to the most appropriate internal or external service.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments via phone, online, and face-to-face to determine eligibility and complete psycho-social assessments for complex needs.
  • Perform client risk assessments and safety planning; maintain accurate case records.
  • Provide outreach services as needed and negotiate appropriate fees with clients.
  • Advocate for client rights and collaborate with child protection and other agencies to achieve service goals.
  • Develop and deliver client/community education workshops; prepare case and court reports as necessary.
  • Work with individuals, families, and couples to enhance self-awareness and relationship skills.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and professional development.

Qualifications, Credentials and Other Requirements

  • Degree in Health, Human Services, Behavioural Science, Social Work, Psychology or similar.
  • Current National Police Check.
  • Current Blue Card.
  • Current Queensland Driver Licence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the service region.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours, including on-call work.

  • Strong ability to work within a child-focused and whole family framework while positively engaging clients in a supportive role.
  • Committed to maintaining confidentiality and applying sensitivity with a non-judgmental approach.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively consult and liaise with diverse individuals.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, adept at prioritising and meeting deadlines.
  • Capable of working independently, taking initiative, and contributing as an effective team member.
  • Digital literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and various database applications.
