About the Role

The Bringing Up Aboriginal Babies at Home (BUABAH) Practitioner plays a vital role in supporting families through culturally appropriate and trauma-informed engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Linking families with maternity and birth supports, key partners, and stakeholders to provide a wraparound response to address identified needs.
  • Empowering families to share their story their way through the implementation of culturally appropriate planning processes and ensuring active involvement in decision making.
  • Fostering and maintaining cultural connections with Aboriginal families and communities.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A diploma qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Nursing, or substantial experience in these fields.
  • An in-depth understanding of the impact of colonisation, intergenerational trauma, and other issues affecting Aboriginal families, children, and young people.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with other organisations in partnership to achieve mutually agreed client/community outcomes.
