Ongoing employment as a Firefighter requires working on-call hours from a local fire station.

About the role:

Firefighters undertake various duties, including community fire safety work, attending fires and emergencies, and collaborating with other emergency services.

They are paid for attendance at incidents, training sessions, and community safety activities.

About you:

To succeed as a Firefighter, you must be team-oriented, community-focused, adaptable, reliable, and available to work across weekdays and weekends, including day and night shifts.

You must live and/or work within a reasonable distance of the FRNSW Fire Station.

Essential requirements:

  • Valid NSW Driver's Licence (minimum P1)
  • Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Live and/or work within a reasonable distance of the FRNSW Fire Station

Training is provided on an ongoing basis, covering firefighting and rescue skills, basic life support, rope work, power tool use, and community engagement.

Minimum availability and attendance requirements:

  • At least 33% of all calls over a six-month period
  • A minimum of 80% of all calls received by the brigade during compulsory availability in any four-week period
  • No less than 75% drill attendance
