Underwriting Director, Casualty Region

**Job Overview:**
As an Underwriting Director, Casualty Region with AXA XL, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of underwriting operations within the central region. This role requires a strategic thinker who can execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics while ensuring profitability.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics, including verification of appropriate risk premium calculations to ensure profitability.
- Effective relationship management with clients and broker partners, initiating opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
- Mange insured and producer relationships across large geographical territories.
- Maintain visibility in the market by effectively marketing to insureds and brokers.
- Ensure client satisfaction as it relates to fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
- In coordination with other internal teams, determine appropriate reinsurance for risk placements.
- Leadership responsibilities - Lead and develop a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters.
- Operational responsibilities - Oversight on submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports. Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards. Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
**Required Skills and Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree preferred and equivalent experience, policy development, and broker management.
- Knowledge of functionality of systems, including strong technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
- Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovations.
- Ability to lead in accordance with AXA XL core values and culture.

- Marketing - Effectively plan for sales and business development. Integrating the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth over a defined period.
- Negotiation/Sales - Plan, structure, and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
- Interpersonal Savvy – Build excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, & colleagues with the intention of improving personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
- Industry Knowledge - Understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
- Strategy/Planning - Make underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plan and deliver results. Has knowledge of financial targets and levers in order to deliver on departmental business plan.
- Analytical Skills - Visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and solve complex problems in order to make key business decisions.
**Salary:** $120,000 per annum, based on the current market conditions and the level of experience required for this role.
