Insurance Underwriter Lead, NSW

As a Senior Casualty Underwriter with Chubb in New South Wales, you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal casualty accounts in line with the company's guidelines.
About the RoleThe position involves developing business from an allocated panel of independent and global brokers within their delegated authority. This requires building and maintaining relationships with brokers, as well as tenacity and skill in pursuing target accounts.
You will establish and execute business plans to maximise opportunities with those brokers. Within Chubb, the role also involves coaching and developing less experienced staff in technical and soft skills, demonstrating enthusiasm and decision-making capabilities independently or collaboratively with colleagues and/or managers.
Your Responsibilities:- Achieve the personal premium budget through commercial underwriting process analysis.
- Work within the Casualty department on an assigned broker panel, underwriting a primary, umbrella, and excess liability portfolio in accordance with Chubb's underwriting strategy.
- Select new risks and underwrite renewals for assigned business and/or designated speciality classes or market segments.
- Organise and present significant, complex accounts to Branch, Regional, or Global referral points for approval as applicable.
- Manage a mix of Australian indigenous business and multinational programs including fronting placements, with typical premium sizes ranging from $25,000 to $1,000,000.
- Act as a key player on multi-departmental accounts.
- Provide technical leadership for underwriting/marketing in the department or branch, including risk referrals and portfolio management.
- Maintain a high-level understanding of pricing individual risk exposures.
- Assist others in developing pricing strategies, renewal negotiation strategy, and game plans on new business submissions.
- May serve as a higher level of underwriting authority for others in the branch.
- 5 years' experience in a Casualty or Package Underwriting and Development role with an insurance company.
- Strong broker relationships across Independent and Global broking houses.
- Develop creative solutions to unique underwriting situations.
- Understand advanced pricing techniques, claims rating, payback pricing, deductible structures, and account servicing costs.
- Be familiar with developing marketing plans and handling complex accounts.
- Understand the underwriting appetites of other departments and how they relate to interdepartmental accounts.
- Understand the broker selection and appointment process.
- Make recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies.
- Familiar with the products/services of key competitors.
- Ability to operate and perform well in a team environment, coordinating with Claims, Risk Engineering, and Operations.
- Experience in interpreting and analysing claims and deploying loss control resources effectively.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and negotiation skills both internally and externally.
- Able to train entry-level underwriters and orient new experienced hires.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft systems, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
