Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced professional to support key interpretation and collections projects. The successful candidate will have relevant experience in working with moveable heritage collections, including an understanding of conservation, exhibition, security and handling requirements.

This is a fixed-term contract for a period of three months' probationary period, after which the position may be extended subject to satisfactory performance.

The role involves supporting key interpretation and collections projects, assisting with collections management, image management and action image and multimedia copyright and permissions for projects. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in the use of MS suite of software, including Word, Excel and Outlook, and sound communication and interpersonal skills.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support key interpretation and collections projects;
  • Assist with collections management, including accessioning artefacts, object photography and updating records;
  • Undertake image management and action image and multimedia copyright and permissions for projects;
  • Draft social media and other communications relating to interpretation and collections projects;
  • Liaise with volunteers and other staff relating to interpretation and collections projects;
  • Prepare reports and other correspondence as required;
  • Other duties as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.
Key Selection Criteria
  1. Collections Management: Relevant experience in working with moveable heritage collections, including an understanding of conservation, exhibition, security and handling requirements;
  2. Museum Software: Familiarity with museum collections management systems (ideally Vernon CMS);
  3. Communication Skills: Sound communication and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to engage with volunteers, community groups and individuals;
  4. Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in a team and independently, with sound management skills;
  5. National Police Clearance: National Police Clearance;
  6. Driver's Licence: Current C Class Driver's Licence.
  7. Tertiary Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in museum studies, cultural heritage studies, history or related disciplines;
  8. Vernon CMS: Experience in the use of Vernon CMS;
  9. Heritage Places and Collections: Demonstrated understanding of the unique requirements of heritage places and collections; and
  10. Financial Management Systems: Experience in the use of financial management systems.
Additional Information

This is a part-time position at Level 3.1 (GOSAC Award) – currently $2057.96 per fortnight.
