Senior Leadership Position in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health

Queensland Health is seeking a highly experienced and respected First Nations leader to fill the key senior leadership position of Chief First Nations Health Officer. This role offers a unique opportunity to elevate the visibility and strategic importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health across Queensland.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing culturally safe strategic leadership, strengthening high-level relationships across government and community sectors, and leading the delivery of Queensland Health's First Nations Health Equity Strategies. They will also advise the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, and the Director-General on state, national, and international issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.

Responsibilities
  • Provide culturally safe strategic leadership to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Strengthen high-level relationships across government and community sectors to drive improved health equity outcomes
  • Lead the delivery of Queensland Health's First Nations Health Equity Strategies
  • Advise the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, and the Director-General on state, national, and international issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing
Requirements
  • Demonstrated direct, lived-experience knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and identity
  • Proven track record of advocating for and leading health equity strategies for First Nations peoples
  • Strong governance and policy and strategic planning experience
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
  • Experience in addressing institutional racism and embedding culturally safe practices within health systems
