The role of a Nursing Unit Manager is to provide strategic leadership and direction for the development and maintenance of a high-performing, evidence-based safe and effective Acute Medicine Service.

About the Role:

  • Provide operational input into the development of strategic plans and departmental direction within Acute Medical Ward.
  • Operationalise departmental direction, providing leadership and guidance to ensure the efficient and effective management of the Acute Medical Ward.
  • Coordinate and perform the Acute Medical Ward in conjunction with the Operations Manager to ensure service provision, patient assessment, care planning, care coordination, and continuing management in accordance with professional standards and legislative requirements.
  • Participate in and facilitate the promotion of research and evidence-based care as appropriate.
  • Act as a role model and champion of change by driving the development, implementation, and evaluation of contemporary, evidence-based models of care, clinical practices, guidelines, and standards that ensure services delivered in the acute medical unit are appropriate, coordinated, safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective.
  • Manage nursing professional issues: Ensure that all services provided are in line with current professional standards of practice by providing professional support to senior and junior nursing staff on matters relating to Awards, conditions of employment, and WH&S matters.
  • Oversee the professional development of all nursing staff and unit-based administrative staff in the Department; participate in undergraduate, post-graduate, nursing education and training; including effective implementation of Performance Development Program and mandatory education requirements.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursing Unit Manager who has a strong background in acute/subacute facility and/or ambulatory settings and can lead, develop, and manage a team in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • A relevant postgraduate management qualification or experience, or working towards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial and human resources.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to improving health care through quality improvement and implementation of evidence-based care.
