Director of Operations and Infrastructure

Queensland's healthcare system is facing unprecedented challenges, driven by a growing and aging population, and compounded by pressures on primary, secondary, and disability care. To address this, Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ), in partnership with Hospital and Health Services (HHS), is leading a major hospital expansion program, the largest in Queensland's history.
The program includes:
- Constructing three new hospitals
- Expanding 11 existing facilities
- Upgrading rural and regional health infrastructure
- Delivering thousands of new hospital beds over the next five years
This is the first phase of a 15-year infrastructure investment program. As a member of the HIQ team, you will play a key role in developing a sustainable delivery model and contributing to the delivery of projects that improve the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders.
The RoleThe Executive Director, Operations is a critical leadership position within the HIQ Executive Leadership Team, responsible for leading a range of core functions, including governance, financial reporting, budget development, procurement, and contracts. This role will also oversee Communications and Engagement, Property Services, and general Operations, as well as developing policies, frameworks, and processes to guide health infrastructure project planning and delivery.
With a strong background in operational resource management and organizational improvement, you will lead the operations for HIQ, reporting to the Deputy Director-General as a key leader of the HIQ Executive Leadership Team. You will contribute to strategic decisions that advance the interests of the Division and the health system more broadly.
The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will have a proven track record as a strategic leader, responsible for managing a broad range of support functions across the infrastructure space. You will have experience in implementing innovative and strategic approaches to operational resource management and organizational improvement. To excel in this role, you will need to have developed and demonstrated strong negotiation, consultative, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish, develop, and maintain business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
