Key Position Overview

This critical role is responsible for managing the risk framework that governs merchant risk throughout the merchant lifecycle. The position contributes to ANZ Worldline's Enterprise Risk Management efforts and shapes the company's Merchant Risk Strategy and Risk Appetite.

The Role: Second Line of Defence

The successful candidate will address merchant risk (credit, fraud, payment schemes, integrity) and ensure that the risk/reward balance aligns with the company's strategy. Key responsibilities include designing and overseeing the Merchant Risk Policy Framework, as well as controlling its effective implementation within the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of overarching merchant risk policies.
  • Control the proper escalation to approval authorities for underwriting and acceptance decisions when required.
  • Review materials prepared by Risk 1st line for MS & Group Merchant Risk & Compliance Committees.
  • Develop and update the Merchant Risk Appetite Statement.
  • Contribute to defining merchant risk monitoring standards and KPIs/KRIs at portfolio level.
  • Implement and perform controls and validations of the merchant risk process.
  • Participate in data management initiatives regarding risk data.
  • Collaborate with risk analytics experts to prepare reports facilitating better understanding of risk.
  • Support the first line of defence in providing guidance and training on merchant risk policies and standards.

Requirements and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess sound experience gained in credit analysis or fraud detection, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with operations teams to identify and assess the level of risk the organization is taking on. A background in the payment services or banking industry is desirable.
