About the Role

The Education Specialist is a key member of the MacKillop Family Services team, responsible for providing support to young people in Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) settings. This includes Intensive Therapeutic Transitional Care (ITTC) and ITTC outreach, to access and/or remain engaged with education.

Primary Objectives

The Education Specialist will build strong relationships with young people and education providers to implement innovative education programs that align with MacKillop's values and the ITC essential elements.

The Education Specialist will develop individualized education plans that align with the young person's therapeutic plan and case plan. These plans will be developed in consultation with the young person, their family and significant others, the agency with primary case responsibility, and the young person's school or education provider.

The education plan will aim to increase education participation and engagement, reduce absenteeism and exclusion from education.

Key Responsibilities

The Education Specialist will:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans that align with the young person's therapeutic plan and case plan.
  • Build strong relationships with young people and education providers to implement innovative education programs.
  • Provide support to young people in ITC settings to access and/or remain engaged with education.
  • Collaborate with the ITC team to ensure the successful implementation of education programs.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant work experience and a minimum Diploma Qualification, Certificate IV in Education Support or Special needs or equivalent.
  • An understanding and commitment to the objectives and values of MacKillop Family Services, including Sanctuary Commitments.
  • An understanding of teaching and learning strategies and the ability to implement these as required.
