We are seeking a highly skilled Chef Manager to join our team. Reporting directly to the Facility Director and being a member of the site leadership team, this full-time role is responsible for leading a small team managing the site cafeteria and service functions.
A key success factor in this critical people leadership role is building high-trust, respectful, and professional relationships with colleagues and support teams, underpinning operational excellence and aligning with our core values.
As the Chef Manager, you will connect with our residents, actively seeking feedback to improve food and nutritional operations, and effectively communicate your vision, creativity, and wellness attitude towards food.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional quality meals on time, including room service and café, following set menus aligned with residents' food preferences and nutritional plans.
- Lead kitchen teams in workplace safety routines and safety checklists.
- Participate in our Chef Community, sharing food creations and catering for events.
- Manage procurement, stocktakes, and equipment maintenance processes.
- Attend daily management meetings with other department heads to implement strategic and operational outcomes.
- Be receptive to customer feedback and ensure all operations meet external food hygiene audits and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the Regional Chef support network to improve and develop new food services.
- Partner with education providers and VET programs to facilitate student placements in the kitchen.
This role involves physical tasks such as bending, squatting, lifting, and pushing items. You must be able to perform these tasks safely without risk of injury to yourself, colleagues, or residents.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in commercial kitchens.
- Proven leadership experience in managing kitchen teams.
- Natural people person who fosters a safe, fun, and learning-oriented culture.
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement.
- Open to feedback and committed to continuous development.
- Positive, approachable leader who collaborates with operational teams.
- Qualifications: Certificate III or higher in Commercial Cookery and a valid Food Safety Supervisors certificate.
- Ability to adapt menus creatively for residents.
