Senior Underwriter, Professional Liability

As a Senior Underwriter, Professional Liability, you'll play a pivotal role in promoting progress and inspiring our clients, employees, investors, and communities to achieve their greatest potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite new and existing portfolios of business within set guidelines, authority levels, and service standards.
  • Mentor and develop Underwriters, providing guidance and feedback to ensure their success.
  • Report to senior management, providing insights and recommendations to drive business growth.
  • Maintain a professional approach in all internal and external stakeholder interactions, ensuring effective, efficient, compliant, and profitable underwriting.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to maximize underwriting opportunities, minimize expenses, and achieve operations and service targets.
  • Develop and execute new business opportunities, interacting with existing and new brokers to drive growth and revenue.
  • Work with senior underwriters and management to develop and implement underwriting strategies.
  • Assist with the implementation of distribution strategies with other profit centers and identify cross-sell opportunities.
  • Comply with relevant laws, regulations, industry codes, and Arch organization standards.
Requirements and Skills:
  • Experience working in the financial services industry, with knowledge of the legislative framework.
  • Demonstrable ability to grow a profitable portfolio.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Tertiary qualifications desirable but not essential.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Organized and methodical approach to working practices, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Australian insurance regulatory and compliance environment.
  • Sound analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize and maintain attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to learn and contribute as part of a team, with the ability to work autonomously when required.
  • Active market presence and strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to provide a high level of service to external stakeholders.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex underwriting problems within defined guidelines.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of products, underwriting practices, and market dynamics.
