Lead Workplace Relations Specialist

The Opportunity

We are seeking a seasoned workplace relations expert to spearhead the day-to-day operations of our Workplace Relations team. This key role involves providing strategic advice to senior management on industrial and employment relations matters.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Offer expert guidance to university managers and staff on workplace relations matters, ensuring effective dispute resolution and grievance management.
  • Take ownership of complex workplace relations issues, including specialist negotiations and highly contentious disputes.
  • Promote collaborative relationships with unions, enterprise bargaining stakeholders, and external partners to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Represent the organisation in discussions with unions, enterprise bargaining, and external industrial tribunals.
  • Contribute to policy development, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and organisational objectives.
  • Provide leadership to Workplace Relations staff, fostering professional growth and effective dispute resolution strategies.

About You

To excel in this role, you will possess:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in industrial and workplace relations, with a strong understanding of organisational change and structure.
  • Demonstrated expertise in negotiation, conflict resolution, and employee relations within large, multi-site organisations.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic employee relations policies that balance organisational interests and workforce needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, enabling effective engagement with staff, senior management, and external partners.
  • Superior leadership abilities, with evidence of successful team management and autonomy under broad direction.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a deep understanding of industrial law and the capacity to interpret agreements, awards, and legislation.
