Job Description:

We are seeking a Commercial Analyst to join our team in a fast-paced environment where innovation, collaboration, and market insight drive real-time decisions and long-term strategy. As a key member of our small and agile team, you will play a vital role in analyzing market data, forecasting price movements, building custom tools, and delivering insights that empower trading decisions.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Analyze large datasets related to electricity markets to uncover critical trends and patterns
    • Build, refine, and maintain forecasting models for energy prices and market risk evaluation
    • Collaborate closely with traders to enhance trading strategies and risk management practices
    • Design and implement custom software tools to streamline market analysis and automate reporting workflows
    • Partner with internal teams and stakeholders to continuously enhance market analytics and forecasting capabilities
    • Stay informed on industry developments, regulatory changes, and market dynamics, and regularly provide strategic insights to senior management
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as Economics, Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Practical experience working with the AEMO MMS Database is essential
  • Prior exposure to spot trading in the Australian electricity market is advantageous
  • Solid understanding of electricity market fundamentals, including pricing mechanisms, market structure, and regulatory frameworks
  • Proficient in software development, with experience in programming languages such as Python, Java, R, or C++
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in handling large and complex datasets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill and convey complex information to non-technical stakeholders
