Why Your Role Matters:
The Mental Health Support Specialist, Rural Clinical Campuses is responsible for providing wellbeing care services for students with social, emotional, health and wellbeing needs through triage, assessment and short solutions-based therapy.
The position holder works closely with senior academic and professional staff at local Rural Clinical Campuses sites, as well as local services and other health professionals. The role will liaise regularly with UNSW Central Services such as Mental Health Connect, Psychology and Wellness, Equitable Learning Service and Student Support Team.
This process will facilitate the critical role in supporting students through a positive wellbeing approach and enhancing the student experience.
Job Description:
This is a part-time role that requires the incumbent to work 2 days per week between Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday at Port Macquarie campus and travel to Coffs Harbour campus a minimum of once per month, and other times as required.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Employment Type: Part-time 14 hours per week (0.4FTE)
- Duration: Fixed term contract until June 2026
- Remuneration: $110,073 Full time equivalent + 17% Super and leave loading
- Location: Port Macquarie, NSW
Your Requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant post-qualifying experience in Psychology, Counselling, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or Mental Health Nurse with registration or eligibility for registration with the appropriate accrediting body.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals who have psychosocial support needs such as mental health, chronic physical health and disabilities, with significant experience conducting psycho-social needs and risks assessments and undertaking short-term therapeutic interventions.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to contribute positively and proactively within a small team, demonstrating self-motivation, initiative and judgement.
- Capacity to advocate on behalf of students and support them to navigate program and other administrative processes in a complex environment.
