Job Role: Recovery Support Specialist

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest charities, with a vision to do good that transforms lives and futures.

This role plays a vital part in The Salvation Army's Canberra Recovery Services Foundations Program, where the Recovery Support Specialist works closely with people facing substance use challenges by sharing their own recovery experiences.

  • Facilitate further understanding among the AOD team by sharing lived experience perspectives.
  • Support individuals in navigating the community health system and accessing external support services.
  • Develop and lead creative activities for participants to engage in self-care, personal development, and community involvement.

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Lived experience of addiction and recovery.
  • A Certificate 4 in Community Services or a related field (e.g., AOD, Mental Health).
  • A clear understanding of harm minimisation approaches and knowledge of the issues and challenges AOD clients face.
