Job Opportunity

The Senior Liability Manager role is a senior position within the Legal Services Directorate.

This role requires a highly experienced lawyer with a passion for litigation, talent for managing people, and enthusiasm for public education.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of delivering high-quality legal advice and managing complex litigation matters, as well as experience in supervising staff and developing their capabilities.

They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Co-leading and managing the Liability team to deliver high-quality legal advice and conduct litigation services
  • Providing strategic legal advice to the department on liability claims and other legal matters
  • Managing complex litigation matters, including negotiation, advocacy, and mediation
  • Supervising staff and developing their capabilities to ensure effective delivery of legal services
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across the department and external partners to achieve shared goals

To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

  • A current unrestricted NSW legal practising certificate (or ability to apply for an unrestricted practising certificate)
  • Proven ability in managing, motivating and developing staff so their potential is maximised
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with civil litigation and liability claims
  • The ability to provide quality independent legal advice and manage legal risks
  • Commitment to ensuring corporate processes and systems are implemented
  • Complementary capabilities in statutory interpretation, legal research, legal drafting, prosecution and advocacy
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
