Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Protection Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in high voltage systems protection, controls, and SCADA. This role offers the opportunity to establish and grow our team in Australia.

The successful applicant will lead a team of secondary system designers and support multi-disciplinary design and project management teams. Key responsibilities include preparing and delivering full scope secondary designs for new and brownfield sites, conducting load flow, fault levels, and protection coordination studies, relay application and protection settings, protection and control schematics, SCADA system architecture, communication protocols, and auxiliary supply systems.

Maintaining client relationships is crucial to supporting project delivery and engaging as a subject matter specialist. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is also essential to define project goals, establish budgets, and develop project schedules.

Active participation in design reviews, risk assessments, and quality control processes ensures design excellence. Staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in power system control and protection design recommends innovative solutions.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in designing HV and EHV substation installations, preferably including secondary systems design, protection, control, SCADA, and auxiliary supplies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills, with the ability to develop and lead design teams and develop strong client relationships.
  • Experience working in digital engineering environments and delivering to local technical standards and guidelines.
  • Commercially minded, able to understand business needs of both AtkinsRéalis and clients.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Power Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • NER, CPEng, or RPEQ is ideal.
