Structural Steel Fabrication Specialist

Abergeldie is a leading contractor with 30 years' experience in delivering complex infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand.

We are seeking an experienced structural steel fabrication specialist to join our team on a casual basis, with the possibility of becoming permanent after six months.

  • Designing, cutting, welding and delivering structural-steel components for major infrastructure projects including bridges, tunnels, water and wastewater treatment facilities, rail works, mining infrastructure and pipeline rehabilitation.

The ideal candidate will have experience in welding and fabrication procedures, interpreting drawings and working in a team environment. They should also possess strong safety-focused work ethics and be motivated, reliable and take pride in their workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fabricating and welding products to high standards.
  • Selecting, cleaning and preparing metal from stock for use in fabrication.
  • Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines.
  • Joining metal sections using various welding techniques and bolting.
  • Examining welds for width, penetration and precision, then cleaning and smoothing them by filing, chiseling and grinding.
Requirements:
  • TIG & MIG welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Some experience in stainless steel and aluminum welding is desirable.
  • Welding Certification or relevant experience.
  • Current driver's license and reliable transport.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Motivation, reliability and pride in workmanship.
  • Strong safety-focused work ethic.
  • Boilermaking experience is advantageous.
