Job Description
We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join our team in workplace relations, education and safety law. The successful candidate will have a strong background in employment law and be able to provide expert advice to clients on complex matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide employment advice to clients on issues such as commencement of employment, terms and conditions, performance management, termination of employment, equal opportunity, preventing bullying, discrimination, and sexual harassment, occupational and workplace health and safety, and independent contractors.
- Draft contracts of employment, service agreements, deeds, policies, procedures, pleadings, etc.
- Negotiate, prepare, and lodge Enterprise Agreements.
- Conduct litigation such as unfair dismissal, adverse action, industrial action, bullying claims at the Fair Work Commission; breach of contract claims in state courts; and discrimination claims at the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission or Australian Human Rights Commission.
- Advise on mandatory reporting and compliance with reportable conduct schemes.
- Deal with student discipline, safety, and wellbeing issues.
- Manage stakeholders and media.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-3 years post-admission experience in workplace relations law, with a strong commercial mindset and practical approach.
- Experience in the education sector, including student safety and wellbeing, is desirable.
- Experience in litigation and/or corporate governance is desirable.
- Excellent drafting skills and ability to handle a varied workload.
- Strong initiative, critical thinking, and strategic ability.
