Pig Farming Team Leader Position

Global Skilled Employment Services is seeking a seasoned Pig Farming Team Leader to oversee the production team of a piggery company with multiple farm sites.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and time management skills, be self-motivated, and able to work independently and as a member of a team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising the site and facilities to ensure optimal resource allocation, safety requirements, and maintenance of the Company Quality Assurance program;
  • Providing overall maintenance and compliance of the Company Quality Assurance program, ensuring all relevant documentation is up-to-date;
  • Supervising data collection and recording to ensure accurate information for stock and inventory control;
  • Undertaking specific tasks assigned by management to meet environmental, quality, and safety goals;
  • Implementing preventable maintenance programs to reduce planned and unplanned downtime;
  • Supervising trial sheds, collecting and recording data in accordance with trial protocols;
  • Selecting breeding stock and/or pigs for sale;
  • Supervising and participating in daily inspections of livestock to ensure proper care and environmental parameters are met;
  • Euthanizing sick or injured stock in a humane manner and in accordance with industry standards;
  • Conducting post-mortem examinations of deceased stock and reporting findings;
  • Supervising and participating in the mating of animals via individually supervised mating or Artificial Insemination;
  • Supervising the birthing process, including conducting internal assessments of females during parturition to minimize stillbirths;
  • Participating in company/industry training sessions and workshops as required;
  • Performing any other duty as required by the Unit Manager.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Advanced knowledge in animal husbandry, animal welfare, and pig production;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
  • Knowledge of computer systems is an advantage.
