Job Title: Indigenous Community Development Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Community Development Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Indigenous communities, including disability.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous Affairs and its impact on today's communities. You will also need to be able to build effective relationships with community leaders and participants, and promote open dialogue between them.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to support Indigenous communities in targeted areas and communities.
  • You will advocate on behalf of Indigenous people with disability by providing specialist advice to support services.
  • You will support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Community Capacity Building and Engagement Plan with identified outcomes.
  • You will develop and implement initiatives that increase inclusion, build capacity, and increase the participant's utilisation of NDIS services and other services and programs in the community.
Essential Criteria
  • The position requires applicants to be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal, and accepted in the community as such.
  • The successful candidate must identify, be known, and accepted by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • They must have proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally, and with people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
