Indigenous Engagement Specialist Role

Description of the Job:

The Indigenous Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in fostering meaningful connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This position involves ongoing engagement and consultation, implementing an engagement plan aligned with the Community Impact Strategy, providing analysis of Indigenous policy matters, and sourcing relevant research to inform SBS's content and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ongoing engagement and consultation with key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders within SBS
  • Implementing the engagement plan in line with the Community Impact Strategy
  • Providing analysis of Indigenous policy matters and advice as necessary
  • Sourcing research relevant to matters to inform SBS in relation to content, protocol, and operational matters pertaining to First Nations Australians

Requirements:

This role requires a skilled communicator from the Indigenous sector with excellent networks, organisation, and writing skills. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong understanding of Indigenous communities, cultures, and protocols
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role with a strong focus on project management, communications, research, or related area

Desirable Skills:

- Media, communications, journalism, or editorial background
- Ability to interpret and analyse data with a strategic mindset
