Senior Research Scientist

The University of Queensland is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Principal Research Engineer to join our dynamic team in the Australian Plant Phenomics Network (APPN). This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research infrastructure and expertise in plant phenomics, providing leadership in infrastructure, skills, and service for agricultural research and industry.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist expertise on research methods, techniques, approaches, and methodologies in proximal and remote sensing for high-throughput plant phenotyping.
- Design and apply customised sensor networks and specialist equipment for high-throughput plant phenotyping, including programming of sensor operating systems and data output analysis pipelines.
- Train and supervise researchers and students in the use of highly specialised equipment and software programs.
- Contribute to the development and specification of new research projects.
- Provide technical support for field-based and control environment research and data collection.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual with a strong technical background in electrical/mechatronic engineering, data science, and agricultural research. You will have advanced technical capabilities in using Python and other programming languages, as well as a strong understanding of proximal sensing technology for high-throughput plant phenotyping.
You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of research and scientific staff to deliver customised technology solutions for various plant research applications.
