\Urban Wildlife Officer Job Description\

The Urban Wildlife Officer will be responsible for attending to injured or sick wildlife, primarily euthanising kangaroos involved in vehicle collisions and removing deceased animals from public land.

This role forms part of a small team working in various locations across the ACT to deliver the Urban Wildlife Program. The team responds to over 2000 kangaroo collisions annually.

Key Responsibilities:

  • \
  • Attend to injured or sick wildlife\
  • Euthanise kangaroos involved in vehicle collisions\
  • Remove deceased animals from public land\
  • Work independently to respond to wildlife situations\
  • Utilise information technology to capture program data and information\
  • Maintain physical and psychological wellbeing for safe role performance\
  • Display safe driving and manual handling skills\
  • Be willing to work outdoors in varying conditions\
  • Adhere to after-hours shifts when required\
  • Perform general maintenance and construction duties within the estate\
  • Assist in situations requiring stock handling and biosecurity responses\
  • Undertake other duties directed by senior managers\
  • Maintain walking tracks, fencing, and recreational facilities\
  • Clean and maintain amenities\
  • Minor maintenance of plant, signs, equipment, firebreaks, buildings, and vehicles\

    • Eligibility Requirements:\

      • Eligibility to obtain/retain an ACT Firearms Licence\
      • Prior registration under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011\
      • Current manual driver's licence\
