Job Title: Education Officer: Literacy Intervention

The role of Education Officer: Literacy Intervention is pivotal in driving the strategic development, implementation and continuous evaluation of K-2 Literacy Intervention programs across primary schools within Sydney Catholic Schools.

This position focuses on designing, developing and assessing targeted interventions in reading, comprehension and writing, ensuring alignment with Tier 1 instruction. It also involves delivering professional learning and providing ongoing support to school staff to enhance literacy outcomes and embed best practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Training teachers in the theory and practice of Literacy Intervention, providing ongoing feedback and professional support to teachers in training
  • Facilitating all other training and capacity building elements of Literacy Intervention
  • Collating, analysing and interpreting data associated with Literacy Intervention
  • Preparing reports for leaders on Literacy Intervention program progress and outcomes
  • Collaborating with the Diverse Learning team to ensure alignment of processes and practices in supporting the diverse learning needs of students
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with Principals and teachers across SCS to successfully embed the Literacy Intervention program
  • Supporting Principals in the referral process of students who have not successfully progressed from Literacy Intervention

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education and Accreditation:

  • University Degree in Education and current NESA accreditation, operating at the Highly Accomplished or Lead level of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers

Teaching Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience in a school with demonstrated success teaching K-3 classes

Literacy Knowledge and Data Analysis:

  • Knowledge and understanding in relation to issues and trends in current practice of teaching literacy
  • Experience in using data analysis to inform educational decisions

Outcomes and Implementation:

  • Success in improving student outcomes and implementing school-wide initiatives

Personal Qualities:

  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate contemporary educational trends
  • Genuine willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools
