PhD Scholarship in Information Visualisation

We invite exceptional students to undertake a funded PhD scholarship position in the field of information visualisation, bioinformatics, and the Semantic Web.

The Gene Ontology (GO) is one of the most widely used biomedical ontologies. It comprehensively describes different aspects of genes and gene products under three broad categories: biological process, cellular components, and molecular functions.

Our project aims to investigate novel visualisation techniques for GO and its integration with the Systems Biology Graphical Notation (SBGN). We will explore how domain knowledge captured in ontologies can assist in creating high-quality layouts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate novel visualisation techniques for the Gene Ontology (GO) and its integration with SBGN
  • Develop high-quality layouts using domain knowledge captured in ontologies
  • Collaborate with experts in the field of information visualisation, bioinformatics, and the Semantic Web

You should possess very good programming and analytical skills, be able to work independently as well as cooperatively with others. Research experiences in ontologies, knowledge representation, bioinformatics, or information visualisation would be highly advantageous.

As a successful candidate, you will perform research under the supervision of experienced academics in our Faculty of Information Technology.
