Job Opportunity: Senior Child Protection Counsellor

South Western Sydney Local Health District has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced clinician to join our team as a Senior Child Protection Counsellor. This role will be responsible for improving the emotional, social, and mental wellbeing of children, young people, parents/carers, and their families where there has been a confirmed history of violence and neglect.

This position is part of the Child Protection Counselling Service (CPCS) in South Western Sydney Local Health District, which provides specialist counselling and interventions to clients affected by child protection issues.

The ideal candidate will have a Social Work degree or full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, along with extensive postgraduate clinical experience in providing counselling, groupwork, parenting, and case management interventions.

The successful applicant will also possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and experience in engaging with difficult and involuntary clients. Additionally, they will have a high level of computer skills and be able to provide clinical supervision and expert advice/consultation to other professionals.

Key responsibilities will include providing trauma-informed interventions and responses, coordinating cases, and conducting client-focused advocacy and liaison. The successful applicant will also participate in professional development, quality improvement activities, and departmental duties.

Requirements
  • A Social Work degree or full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Extensive postgraduate clinical experience in providing counselling, groupwork, parenting, and case management interventions.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in engaging with difficult and involuntary clients.
