Leading a Team of Engineers

You will be responsible for managing a dynamic team within our modern payments platform. The team currently services our corporate payments line of business, with aspirations to expand across all lines of business.

As an Engineering Manager, you will drive innovation by building new features on our event-driven, microservices-based architecture deployed in Kubernetes clusters.

Key technologies include containerized applications, event streaming with Kafka, infrastructure-as-code through Terraform, and implementing CI/CD pipelines that enable true continuous delivery.

As the head of a high-performing Scrum team, you will tackle complex data engineering challenges, processing millions of transactions daily through a cloud-native platform that ensures accuracy, security, and exceptional performance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Culture Champion who embodies and promotes WEX's values, creating an inclusive environment and building team cohesion and engagement.
  • Drive technical vision and roadmap for your team's services, providing strong technical leadership while remaining hands-on with code.
  • Lead by example through pair programming, code reviews, and technical spikes to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Manage a cross-functional Scrum team of 5 Engineers, supporting their professional development.
  • Implement advanced architectural patterns like event sourcing, CQRS, and distributed tracing to build resilient, performant systems.
  • Partner with Product teams and stakeholders to define and deliver roadmaps that delight customers, enable business growth, and ensure technical excellence.
  • Maintain sustainable delivery practices while balancing the needs of your team, stakeholders, and the platform services you own.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance delivery capabilities, technical processes, and operational assets.
  • Advocate for technical, delivery, and operational best practices with a focus on measurable outcomes and meaningful metrics.
  • Own and solve complex delivery, technical, and operational challenges, providing guidance while empowering your team's independence.
  • Collaborate effectively across the organization with other Scrum teams and service providers to deliver changes efficiently, securely, and safely.
  • Excel at both building software systems and developing people, supporting their career growth.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative and enabling leadership style.
