Job Description

Award-winning organisation is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead their engineering team and shape the future of their product. This role combines leadership, coaching, and hands-on technologist skills. The ideal candidate will guide the team in building scalable, reliable, and user-focused software while fostering a culture where people love to work, learn, and create.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and inspire the team, setting direction and helping engineers do their best work.
  • Grow people through hiring, mentoring, and career support.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and other teams to turn ideas into high-quality software.
  • Maintain high standards for coding practices, testing, security, and scalability.
  • Balance short-term and long-term needs, making informed decisions on tech debt, deadlines, and future-proofing.
  • Improve processes, CI/CD pipelines, and collaboration to keep moving fast without breaking things.
  • Communicate effectively between technical and non-technical teams.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • You have experience as a skilled software engineer and understand what good code looks like.
  • You have expertise in .NET languages and frameworks or Java language and frameworks.
  • You have a deep understanding of SQL, particularly T-SQL.
  • You have managed development teams before and enjoy helping people grow.
  • You have experience building SaaS products in a cloud-native environment.
  • You are familiar with Agile/lean practices but are not dogmatic about process.
  • You are great at prioritisation, focusing the team on what matters most.
  • You are curious, collaborative, and always looking for better ways to do things.
