The role of the Clinical Nurse Consultant involves providing leadership and expert clinical advice to patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders involved in patient care. They engage directly with patients to plan and navigate investigations, treatments, supportive care, and referrals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a role model and expert clinician in services to patients with gastrointestinal cancer, promoting evidence-based practice and high-quality care.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to patients, family members, and other health professionals involved in the care of the patient, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Support the delivery of multidisciplinary care for inpatients and outpatients, including attendance at Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDMs), promoting a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Coordinate education for patients and carers, ensuring they receive accurate and timely information about their treatment options and care plans.
  • Lead the development and provision of evidence-based nursing clinical practice, driving innovation and excellence in patient care.

Requirements:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  • Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent, showcasing a strong foundation in nursing principles and practices.
  • Post graduate qualification in the specialty field, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills in gastrointestinal oncology.
  • At least 5 years full-time post-registration experience & at least 3 years' clinical experience in oncology, palliative care, or cancer stream specific nursing, highlighting a track record of delivering high-quality patient care.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the private health system, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
