Deputy Director of Research Position

This is a dynamic and challenging opportunity for an individual to lead and develop excellent performance across our hospitals.

About the Role

We are seeking a special kind of person - someone who puts compassion, connection, and caring for others at the heart of everything they do. As a key member of the research team, you will ensure that the research community understands and abides by its obligations under various Federal and State legislation.

You will be expected to build excellent relationships with key external agencies, such as the National Health and Medical Research Council.

As the Deputy Director, you will manage the secretariat support of the Human Research Ethics Committee, the Animal Ethics Committee, and Institutional Biosafety Committee. You will also provide advice to individuals involved in research on matters of ethical, legal, and insurance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the provision of research services, including grants, events, education, and research promotion and facilitation.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing a knowledgeable, competent, accurate, and timely service.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the annual Operational Plan, ensuring the Research Directorate meets the relevant targets set in the Strategic Plan.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the Research Governance Unit budget, working with the Research Director to identify new revenue streams.

The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in the medical, biomedical, or life sciences field, extensive experience managing an administrative unit, and substantial management experience in a research institution. They will also possess sound knowledge of Australian law and standards relating to research activity and an understanding of their role in contemporary research policy and practice.
