**Job Summary**

This is an exciting opportunity for a legally qualified person to join the team as an associate to a senior judicial officer.

The role will involve:

  • proofreading and editing court documents;
  • performing administrative tasks, including maintaining court records and preparing material for use by the judge in court;
  • clerking in court;
  • speaking in court - including empanelling juries, taking verdicts and arraigning the accused;
  • liaising with court staff, the public, the media and the profession; and
  • accompanying the judge to circuit courts in regional Victoria, as and when required.

**About You**

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • a strong academic record;
  • excellent proofreading, editing, typing and computer skills;
  • an advanced organisational capacity;
  • proficiency in English grammar;
  • interpersonal and communication skills to confidently and accurately convey information over the telephone, in writing and in person to members of the legal profession, the public and the media; and
  • a keen appreciation of the importance of the work of the court and the role of an associate in that work.

**Requirements**

The successful applicant must have completed a law degree or be close to completion. Post-admission experience is not essential. An interest in becoming an advocate is desirable.
