Associate to the Hon Justice Walker in the Court of Appeal

Job Description

The Supreme Court of Victoria is the highest court in Victoria and comprises the Court of Appeal and the Trial Division. It deals with major criminal and civil matters, plus appeals against decisions of lower courts.

Judges in the Court are supported by associates who assist in managing and coordinating judicial responsibilities, as well as researching and drafting judgments.

This role involves assisting the Judge in their judicial and administrative duties, including preparing research memoranda, case summaries, and providing administrative support during hearings and in chambers.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in civil and criminal appellate work and observe the work of advocates and the judiciary.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent research, writing, and typing skills, proficiency in grammar, and a strong academic record.

Experience on the editorial committee of a university law journal, mooting, research work for an academic, or higher degree in law are preferred but not essential.
