We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Aerodynamics Engineer to join our team at SpaceX.

About the Role:
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for predicting the aerodynamics and aerothermal environments of our spacecraft and vehicles during all phases of their missions.
  • They will use engineering models, simulations, and wind-tunnel testing to provide accurate predictions ahead of flight validation.
  • The team works closely with the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team to enable safe landing and recovery of both spacecraft stages after mission completion.
Responsibilities:
  • Aerodynamic Analysis: Predict the behavior of fluids and gases surrounding our spacecraft and vehicles.
  • Data Review and Validation: Compare pre-flight estimates with post-flight data to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work with engineers to provide input on designs and ensure clear understanding of physical phenomena.
  • Software Development: Write code and scripts in various languages to automate workflows and ensure seamless integration.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with aerodynamic and aerothermal analysis.
Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+ and developing scripts in Java for it.
  • Experience with solvers used by NASA for entry vehicles, e.g., FUN3D, Loci/CHEM, DPLR.
  • Experimental testing experience.
  • Data processing and analysis in MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience with Siemens NX.
  • Experience with thermal protection systems.
  • Strong background in external, compressible fluid dynamics.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
