Job Overview

The Water Services Officer will play a pivotal role in empowering Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities to manage water for their own purposes. This includes enhancing opportunities for Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to participate in water management decision making, employment within Traditional Owner Groups and the water sector, and documentation of water-dependent Aboriginal values and economic development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

The Aboriginal Water Officer will contribute towards progressing several actions outlined in Victoria's Water Plan Chapter 6, including:

  • Recognising Aboriginal values and objectives of water
  • Including Aboriginal values and traditional ecological knowledge in water planning
  • Supporting Aboriginal access to water for economic development
  • Building capacity to increase Aboriginal participation in water management
  • Increasing Aboriginal inclusion in the water sector

Activities may include:

  • Supporting and hosting events on Country with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities
  • Increasing understanding of Aboriginal water values, requirements, and use among stakeholders
  • Promoting inclusion of Aboriginal values and uses in water planning and management

Accountabilities

**Partnership Development**: The Water Services Officer will develop strategic partnerships with government agencies, non-profit organisations, land managers, and the broader community.
