
Project Planning Manager

The Project Planning Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the coordination and integration of projects into an Integrated Activity Plan and Schedule. This includes oversight of planning-related initiatives, providing direct planning support to project managers, and ensuring that required planning practices and processes are implemented.
This involves:
- Oversight of activities, including development, coordination, and maintenance of portfolio performance reports;
- Transparent and consistent reporting and tracking of plan performance against targets to enhance decision making, opportunity identification, prioritisation, and look-back analysis;
- Providing leadership and guidance to planners;
- Assisting with identifying planning and scheduling skills gaps and recommending suitable training courses; and,
- Reviewing and assessing plans received from operators.
This role includes:
- Developing and managing overall master project schedules, coordinating and incorporating Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), owner's team, and contractor data;
- Maintaining project schedule versions to enable management of change and comparison between reporting periods;
- Leading regular interactive, cross-functional planning sessions to ensure that the schedule is fully integrated and reviewed/challenged by all stakeholders;
- Proactively identifying, analysing, and advising project management teams regarding schedule risks and impacts through sensitivity analysis to identify optimum/alternative project strategies;
- Implementing regular schedule reporting regarding performance versus plan;
- Owning and developing schedule documentation, i.e., schedule development basis, schedule management plan, master project schedule;
- Reviewing and stewarding contractors' planning and scheduling performance in compliance with contract requirements; and,
- Supporting project management teams with schedule communication presentation to business leadership.
To succeed in this role, you will need strong planning skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience working with project management tools and methodologies. You should also have:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Excellent time management and organisational skills;
- Experience in a similar role or industry;
- Knowledge of relevant software and tools;
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
