Chief / Senior Doctor

The Chief Doctor is a high-ranking Medical Officer and head of the Medical Department aboard our cruise ships. This esteemed professional oversees and supervises the work activities of subordinate positions within the department, including Physicians, Lead Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.

As a key member of the crew, the Chief Doctor reports to the Captain of the ship as well as to the Fleet Medical Director at our head office. Their primary responsibility is the provision of basic and emergency medical treatment to passengers and, when required, crew members.

The Chief Doctor's expertise encompasses a wide range of medical conditions, including evaluation and treatment of medical, surgical, gynaecological, and paediatric problems. They are skilled in procedures such as suturing wounds, incising and draining abscesses, evaluating ophthalmologic emergencies, reducing simple dislocations, and administering thrombolytic agents.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Diploma from an accredited school of medicine
  • Minimum three years of post-graduate/post-registration clinical training
  • Board certification or equivalent in Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, or Internal Medicine
  • Current ACLS Provider certification or its equivalent (unless Board Certified in Emergency Medicine)
  • ATLS (Trauma) Certificate and PALS (Paediatric) Certificate beneficial but not mandatory
  • Experience with laboratory and x-ray procedures
  • Excellent command of the English language (spoken and written)
